Gas Process Chemical Engineer - Renewable Energy

Location: Long Beach, CA

What we are looking for

SCS Engineers is looking for a Gas Process Chemical Engineer to join our Renewable Energy Division. The division focuses on renewable energy design/build/operate projects in the renewable biogas and renewable power markets. SCS Energy’s biogas-to-energy facilities currently operating, or currently under design or construction, will remove more than 2,000,000 metric tons/year of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) in greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere. Our projects help a diversified client base achieve their renewable energy goals by reducing their carbon footprint and creating useful by-products from waste material. SCS builds systems that power universities, wastewater treatment plants and dairies; generate renewable natural gas sales; and support electric utilities. We prefer you be based in Long Beach, CA but we are open to remote work.

How you can make an impact

  • Prepare PFDs and P&IDs, including specifying control loops
  • Prepare hydraulic calculations, heat & material balances.
  • Prepare line, valve, & equipment sizing.
  • Prepares relief valve and instrument elements sizing.
  • Prepare and modify process control narratives from P&ID’s and PFD’s.
  • Prepares process calculation tools using Excel.
  • Conduct detailed reviews of vendor drawings/documents for accuracy and to meet project objectives.
  • Communicate with clients, vendors and equipment suppliers.
  • Prepare studies, including cost-benefit analysis for competing process solutions resulting in robust, cost effective designs.
  • Communicate with Project Managers, Project Engineers and other Managers of discipline engineers. Participate in periodic project reviews and client discussions, as required, to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Promote value engineering and technical review through periodic reviews of process design documents and Company standards.
  • Keep current with advances in technology in the marketplace.
  • Maintain strict compliance and technical support with Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes and procedures as well as EH&S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant process engineering experience required.
  • Being a P.E. is a plus.
  • Natural gas / Biomethane / Biogas / Renewables experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of feasibility studies, HAZOP’s and PHA studies preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving required in good standing required.

Pay range for this position is $90k to $140k depending on experience and location. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
